# Setup assistant

> NextGen's setup assistant: what each screen does and how your server ends up.

The setup assistant is the part of the dashboard that sets up your server's protection. It creates the alerts channel and the mute role, turns on the scam detector and the AutoMod rules, and lets you choose the times and the exceptions, all from one screen and with a preview of what people will see.

To open it, go to the dashboard, pick your server and, on the home page, press **Abrir el asistente** (Open the assistant) on the **Empezar fácilmente** (Get started easily) card. Only people who can change the server's settings see it. The dashboard is only available in Spanish, so the buttons are given in both languages.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Before you start, place the NextGen role as high as you can in **Server Settings → Roles**. The bot can only create and change roles below its own.

## Two ways to use it

The first screen offers both.

| Option | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Iniciar configuración automática** (Start automatic setup) | Applies the recommended setup and then only asks for the times and the exceptions. |
| **Continuar** (Continue) | Skips the automatic setup and goes through each module, screen by screen, so you decide. |

## Automatic setup

It is the first screen of the assistant. The gears turn while the bot works, and the list shows each step as it is applied.

![First screen of the setup assistant, with the gears and the Start automatic setup and Continue buttons](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-01-automatico-inicio.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=26485175f63419837f99906acf370c2b)

First screen, before starting. The bar at the top shows the steps of the assistant.

When you press **Iniciar configuración automática**, the bot does these steps in order.

1. Creates the alerts channel.
2. Creates the `@silenciado` role and applies it to your channels.
3. Turns on the scam detector.
4. Turns on AutoMod for invites to other servers, spam and malicious content.

Each row goes from **En espera** (Waiting) to **Aplicando…** (Applying) and ends on **Listo** (Done). If a step fails, the row says so and explains the cause.

![List of the automatic setup, with the channel, the role and the detector done, one AutoMod rule applying and two waiting](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-02-automatico-en-marcha.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=82d5e2b81dff8366e18877488da30c6b)

The bot has created the alerts channel and the role, and turned on the detector. It is now applying AutoMod.

![Automatic setup finished, with every step done](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-03-automatico-listo.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=bdf80d0be9b452eb93c7c71e69d5efff)

When it finishes, the Continue button is highlighted.

### What the automatic setup leaves

| What | How it ends up |
| - | - |
| Alerts channel | `#nextgen-alertas` is created, private to the administrators and the bot. |
| Mute role | The `@silenciado` role is created and applied to every channel. |
| Scam detector | On, with balanced sensitivity. |
| Invites to other servers | Deleted. |
| Links | Deleted. |
| Spam | Deleted, and the author is muted for 10 minutes. |
| Malicious content | Deleted, and the author is muted for 1 hour. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Everything the assistant sets up can be edited later from its module, in **AutoMod** or in **Scam detector**.

### If a step fails

The row is marked **Falló** (Failed) or **Con avisos** (With warnings) and the cause appears below it. The most common ones are:

| Cause | What it means |
| - | - |
| A permission is missing | The bot lacks Manage Roles, Manage Channels or Manage Messages, or its role is below. |
| The role was created, but couldn't be applied in some channels | Discord didn't allow changing the permissions of those channels. **Check the bot's permissions.** |
| A channel or role no longer exists | Pick another channel/role. |
| Discord didn't respond properly | Try again. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The **Intentar de nuevo lo que falló** (Try again what failed) button doesn't touch the settings that were already applied successfully, as its own name says.

## After the automatic setup

> [!NOTE]
>
> If every step went well, **Continuar** opens a short walkthrough. It doesn't ask you to reconfigure what the bot already did, only the times and what the automatic setup doesn't touch.

### Times

You choose how long the mute lasts for spam and for malicious content: **5 minutes**, **10 minutes**, **1 hour** or **1 day**. On the right, the preview shows the message with the duration you chose.

![Times screen of the assistant, with the mute duration for spam and for malicious content](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-04-tiempos.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=18197ceae64956b3ca1d250d329bfe63)

The mute times, with the message preview.

### Exceptions

Here you say what the rules don't check.

* **Team roles.** Moderators and administrators. Their messages aren't checked by any rule.
* **Advertising or partner channels.** Invites, links and repeated messages are allowed there. Channel exceptions don't apply to malicious content.

> You can pick up to 25 roles and 25 channels. **This screen is optional**.

Exceptions. They can be left empty.

### Done

The last screen summarizes what is now working. From there you go back to the dashboard home.

![Final screen of the assistant, with the summary of what was applied](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-06-listo.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=31b1f2791ac4a6e0a19e91d4e8e5879b)

Final summary.

## Step by step

If you press **Continuar** without starting the automatic setup, the assistant goes through each module. Each screen is saved when you move on with the arrow on the right, and the one on the left goes back. The bar at the top shows where you are and lets you return to screens you have already seen.

### Alerts

Choose where the detector's and AutoMod's notices go. You can create `#nextgen-alertas`, a private channel that administrators and the bot can see, or use one you already have. If you want your team to see it, give them access from the channel's permissions.

> Here you also decide whether the bot creates the `@silenciado` role.

![Alerts screen of the assistant, with the alerts channel and the mute role](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-07-alertas.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=58270e5014d19c2bf9f072d8ea1e0c34)

Alerts screen, with the preview of the notice your team receives.

### Scam detector

Turn the detector on or off and choose its sensitivity.

| Sensitivity | What it does |
| - | - |
| Calm (Tranquilo) | Only deletes what is almost surely a scam. |
| Balanced (Equilibrado) | Recommended. Deletes the clear scams and reviews the doubtful ones. |
| Strict (Estricto) | Also deletes the doubtful ones. **It can be wrong more often.** |

![Scam detector screen of the assistant, with the sensitivity and the preview](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-08-detector.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=d31f7dd9874eeff51b6c16ba8f0045fd)

Scam detector screen.

### Spam

Turn the anti-spam on or off, choose when something counts as spam and how long the mute lasts.

| Level | What counts as spam |
| - | - |
| Soft (Suave) | 8 messages in 10 seconds, the same text 4 times in 30 seconds, or 8 mentions in one message. |
| Normal | 6 messages in 8 seconds, the same text 3 times in 30 seconds, or 6 mentions in one message. It is the recommended one. |
| Strict (Estricto) | 5 messages in 6 seconds, the same text 3 times in 20 seconds, or 4 mentions in one message. |

![Spam screen of the assistant, with the Soft, Normal and Strict levels and the mute duration](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-09-spam.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=f1f0b260beee416ab573a82eb4f7e2be)

Spam screen, with the mute preview.

### Invites and links

There are two switches.

* **Delete invites to other servers.** Removes the invites that other communities leave in your channels.
* **Block all links.** Deletes any link to a web page. When you turn it on, the list of allowed links appears, and those always pass even though links are blocked.

![Invites and links screen of the assistant, with the two switches](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-10-invitaciones.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=b686b5a91473ea7beef32cd510a50881)

Invites and links screen.

### Malicious content

Turn on or off the rule that deletes known scams, links that steal your IP and fake gifts, and choose how long the mute lasts.

![Malicious content screen of the assistant, with the mute duration](https://mintcdn.com/disco-tech/ifzi56rhguAidTES/images/magico-11-malicioso.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ifzi56rhguAidTES\&q=85\&s=844fbe705a8eba62dce46cd7ae442b50)

Malicious content screen.

> Then come **Exceptions**, explained above, and **Done**.

## How it works

* **It saves as you go.** What you change on a screen is applied when you press the arrow on the right. If you cancel, what was already applied stays.
* **A switch turned off leaves the rule off.** You can turn it on later from AutoMod.
* **What you change shows in the other panels.** The rules and the detector are then read and edited in **AutoMod** and in **Scam detector**, with the same values.
* **You can open it again** whenever you want to change something.
* **The messages are the default ones.** The preview uses the bot's default texts. To change them, go to **Messages**.

If the server already had AutoMod or detector settings, the assistant respects them. It only changes what it asks about and opens showing what is saved. If you had already adjusted the spam limits by hand in AutoMod, a fourth option appears on that screen, **Los tuyos** (Your own), which leaves them as they are and which you can edit from there.
